All the PSAT and SAT prep you need.

And not a moment more.

Prepsilon is a boutique PSAT and SAT preparation practice built around one idea: that a truly expert tutor who knows exactly what you need – and exactly what you don't – is worth more than any classroom, any course, or any number of practice tests taken in a vacuum.

Most tutors deliver hours.
I deliver efficient results.

The tutoring industry has an incentive problem. The more sessions a student attends, the more revenue a company earns. Packages are designed around time more than outcomes.

Prepsilon works differently. Every engagement begins with a precise diagnostic – not a generic practice test, but a rigorous assessment of exactly where you are, exactly where you need to, and exactly what stands between you and that score. From that foundation, every session is purposeful. Every hour is earned.

Some students need 10 hours. Some need 16. A few need more. What no student ever needs is filler – repeated drills that miss the actual gap, or sessions scheduled because they're part of the package. Prepsilon doesn't sell packages. It solves problems.

  • Precision over volume.

The diagnostic tells me everything. I never need to guess what a student needs; I know. This means no time lost on what's already strong, and no gaps left unaddressed. The data provide a clear roadmap that helps us focus on the right mix of content, strategy and time management.

  • Goals before hours.

I gather all of the stakeholders – the student, parents or guardians, college consultant if you have one – to set a goal before we set a schedule. The schedule serves the goal; not the other way around. When we reach our goal earlier than planned, that's a win for everyone.

  • Confidence as a product; not a by-product.

A student who understands why an answer is right, not just which answer is right, walks into the test differently. Real understanding yields confidence that holds up under pressure.

  • Respect for your time.

High school is demanding. College applications are demanding. SAT prep should not feel like a third job. I work efficiently because your time is both finite and valuable, not because I'm watching a clock.

Meet this guy

He has been doing this since 1989. This is his craft and his specialty.

He began his career in test preparation before his current students, and even many of their parents, were born – at a time when the field was still finding its footing. He has taught and tutored thousands of students across the full spectrum of ability and ambition. He has trained teachers and developed materials for some of the most respected names in the industry, including The Princeton Review.

What three and a half decades of practice produces is not just knowledge of the test. It produces pattern recognition. The ability to see, almost immediately, what a student's particular errors reveal about how they're thinking – and to correct the thinking, not just the answer. It produces a diagnostic instinct that no algorithm can replicate and credentials can confer.

Reed launched Prepsilon because he wanted to return to what matters most: working directly with students, with full attention and genuine investment in the outcome. No corporate structure. No franchise. No quotas. Just Reed, your student, and the work.

What working together actually looks like

There's no "Intake Form" to fill out. No placement test to take before you speak with anyone. No package to purchase before you know what you need. Here's what actually happens.

Step 1

The Diagnostic Conversation

It all begins with a conversation – Reed, the student, and ideally a parent or guardian. No pressure, no sales pitch. Reed asks questions that most tutors never consider – not just 'what is your current score?' but 'How do you read under time pressure?' 'What's your relationship with math anxiety?' 'What do you do when you encounter a question you can't immediately answer?' By the end of this conversation, both sides know whether it is or isn't going to be a strong fit.

Step 2

The Precision Assessment

If we proceed, we begin with a full-length diagnostic assessment. This is not a scan-and-score operation, but rather an opportunity to identify the underlying patterns, which Reed uses to build a specific preparation plan for this student, not a template for a someone like this student. The plan identifies exactly what we'll work on, in what order, and with what intensity.

Step 3

The Engagement

Sessions are typically 60–90 minutes, conducted via Zoom or in-person, over a 6–10 week period. Engagements run 14–16 hours on average, though I will always tell you honestly if the goal can be reached in less, or if additional work is warranted. Sessions end when the student's preparation is complete, not when a timer runs out.

Testimonials
'I was honestly dreading SAT prep, but Reed made it bearable. He didn't waste time teaching me stuff I already knew. We went straight to the math concepts where I was struggling and he helped me fix them in like four or five sessions. The efficiency was top-tier.'
